Rochester Energy Democracy Campaign to Replace RG&E with a Public Utility
The County Legislature has introduced and reviewed legislation to commission a study on taking over and replacing RG&E with a public utility in Monroe County! The County Legislature could potentially vote on this at the County Legislature Meeting on Tuesday, April 9th. Let's make sure they vote "yes," and that County Executive Adam Bello signs legislation once it's passed!

Third Act Rochester activists have been busy.
Denise Young and Jim Hooper are working on a curriculum for Third Act Union’s campaign to engage with union retirees and active union members on two issues: the climate crisis and threats to democracy. Studies show that 70% of adults, 65 years and older, indicate that they are worried about climate change. The daily news barrage is filled with information from the right about Trump’s 2025 plan to derail democracy. Education is a beginning, key step in mounting a fightback. We’re using popular education tools to encourage dialog, exchange and action amongst our “community members.” “When we fight, we win.”
Melissa Carlson, a member of the Third Act Upstate-NY coordinating committee, has been working hard on the BEYOND PLASTICS Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act. She took the initiative to ask Rochester City Council to pass a resolution in support of the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act (A5322-B/S4246-B) and an expanded and modernized Bottle Bill (A6353/S237-B), which they did! Since then she has been busy on the phones calling assembly members, state senators, and Gov. Hochul encouraging passage of these two bills. If you want to join her, contact Melissa Carlson.
